Fort Meade is a census-designated place (CDP) in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, United States. The population was 9,882 at the 2000 census. It is the home to the National Security Agency, which is located on the US Army base Fort George G. Meade. As of the census of 2000, there were 9,882 people, 2,432 households, and 2,307 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 1,500.5 people per square mile (579.0/km²). There were 2,813 housing units at an average density of 427.1/sq mi (164.8/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 62.46% White, 25.21% African American, 0.46% Native American, 2.98% Asian, 0.26% Pacific Islander, 3.58% from other races, and 5.06% from two or more races.
